on Feb 20 in News, Seminars posted , , , , , , by admin

After spreading the message of cyber safety in schools for over twelve years, Keith Dunn is proud to announce the KDCOP Foundation as a non-profit foundation. While keeping students safe in the digital world, the KDCOP Foundation strives to perform assemblies at every school across the country. KDCOP assemblies do not only enhance the knowledge of these issues, but also creates an awareness that leads to necessary changes. These assemblies are expanding to more states, and the KDCOP Foundation is anxious to continue this growth.

Dunn has most recently been working closely with the Virginia and New Jersey National Guard Family Program’s Office, providing youth assemblies for 2-4 hours on cyber safety and leadership awareness. In February and March, Dunn will be speaking at three different locations presenting cyber safe/leadership training for the Virginia National Guard. Dunn is looking forward to presenting his program between April 23rd and 26th in Atlanta, Georgia to the staff of the National Guard Family Program’s Office from all 54 states and territories. This appearance will provide him the opportunity to speak to National Guard children all over the country.

Passionate does not even begin to describe Dunn and the way he feels about his work, as well as the children he is determined to help. “I want to be able to get large enough sponsors where I can actually hire a dynamic speaking staff with a passion that I have lived with my whole life of keeping kids safe online,” said Dunn. “These next months could be monumental for the KDCOP foundation and I hope that we raise enough awareness to have gracious corporations or even the Federal Government pitch in to help us provide FREE cyber-bullying, sexting, social networking and online predator safety.”

Dunn hopes to do one of two things during all if his upcoming travels. The first and most important initiative is to spread his cyber safe message to students, adults and CEO’s all over the country in a dynamic, interactive, and inspirational way. His second mission is to try to supply his non-profit organization, the KDCOP Foundation, further funding to provide little to no cost assemblies all over the world for students and adults alike.

ABOUT THE KCOP FOUNDATION
The KDCOP Foundation, a NJ Nonprofit Corporation, provides little or no cost cyber safe assemblies to schools in order to keep their students safe in the digital world. The foundation brings together some of the greatest minds when developing cyber safety curriculum and then executes a dynamic, interactive, educational and inspirational school assembly. The mission of the KDCOP Foundation is to procure sponsorship and grant money to limit the financial stress that already plagues our school systems in order to perform assemblies at every school across the country.

An original play about cyberbullying written by a Cedar Crest College professor will be premiered in a free public performance Feb. 11.

“About Face” will be presented at 10 a.m. in the 1867 Room, Tompkins College Center, Cedar Crest College, 100 College Drive, Allentown.

Amico wrote the play after not being able to find many plays that addressed the issue. While “About Face” is fiction, it draws from recent bullying events that have made national headlines.

Attorney general: Mars man an online sex predator

In the real world, William R. Ainsworth was a used car salesman from Mars with a wife and two kids.

On the Internet, he took on the personas of two 15-year-old runaways living as surfers in Florida and a Pittsburgh-area “Sugar Daddy” willing to send money to one in return for sex with the young girls who friended him on Facebook, state Attorney General Linda Kelly announced on Friday.

Ainsworth, 53, used the two young persons to target girls between 13 and 15 who were stressed because their parents were in a custody dispute or because their peers were harassing them, prosecutors said. Some victims were 12 when he first contacted them.

“He made them feel good about themselves,” Kelly said. “He made them like him. He made himself part of their lives.”

State prosecutors charged Ainsworth with 68 counts of criminal solicitation, child pornography and unlawful contact with minors. He is in the Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail, according to county court records.

Photos automatically tagged for location by smartphones ‘put children at risk from sex predators’

By Rob Waugh

Parents who take smartphone pictures of their children are leaving a ‘digital trail’ that could lead sex predators direct to their front door.

Smartphones often automatically ‘geotag’ every photo they take with its exact GPS location unless the function is disabled.

A study of photos on Flickr found that a significant proportion of pictures of children were ‘tagged’ – parents were handing out what amounted to a street address for their child to ‘internet users who may have dubious reasons for accessing this data.’

The tags use GPS data or phone network data to ‘position’ pictures, and can be acccurate to within a few feet.

Joanne Kuzma, a researcher at the University of Worcester, England, found that many freely available photos on Flickr were geotagged – and was able to trace back children to 50 of the most exclusive zip codes in the U.S.

‘The location information could be used to locate a child’s home based on information publicly available on Flickr,’ explains Kuzma.
