If students in Orange County send sexual text messages, they could be expelled. The school board started working on a new “sexting” policy Monday afternoon.

The rule would apply even for messages sent outside of school if the texts are aimed at fellow students, teachers, or any other school employees.

The same penalties could also be put in place for cyber-bullying and a student’s cell phone could turn out to be the evidence used against them.

“These devices are subject to being searched under reasonable circumstances. And it sets the guidelines for searching the devices,” Wicks said.
